A Solo Company Driver is for the new JD Truck Training Centre driver that has been driving for 6 months to a year. You would be considered a company driver if you don't own the truck but you drive alone.
Before changing a lane take another look to make sure the car that has passed doesn't have a trailer hooked-up to the back of it. There were a few times when I saw that the car was cleared for me to move over so I did a double check and saw that they had a trailer tagging along.
Learning to be a CDL truck driver you will see that you need 2 things. This is what the trucking schools don't teach you. You need experience and you need to be legal. So just wait, and let me explain. I know these sounds like a no brainer. I thought so when I first started truck driving. After Truck driving school I went through the school of hard knocks legally and physically.
For example Chicago is a big city to get through. From 6:00 am in the morning to about 8:00 pm at night you will have a lot of traffic. 3:00 pm rush hour begins and doesn't settle down until 8:00 pm; most big cities are like this. If you are going to be going through at rush hour you're best bet is to wait at a truck stop for a few hours and take a nap.
The instructors will no doubt teach you about some of their experiences during the class. Until you get out on the road you won't really know the reality of what they are talking about. Two weeks in a school with several other trainees will just barely give you enough experience to become pretty familiar with HR Truck Licence driving. You'll be able to pass the driving exam and feel pretty confident and be proud of yourselves. The company that recruits you will send you out with a trainer for several weeks for you to get a feel for how to excel and drive safely while learning the ropes. It's nice to learn from someone who has some experience.
Once you successfully pass the driving course then you will go to work for the company that hired you during your training period as a driver trainee. You will be Truck licence coupled up with a more seasoned driver for a certain amount of time, probably not less than a month and longer in some cases.
So watch your mirrors and plan your lane changes, also don't forget to look for that trailer. Remember your blind spots and who's around you because these CDL requirements are the key to your success.
